Sun EZ-Tri Classic SX Review

Sun EZ 3 Tri Classic

Sun Bicycle has been building adult tricycles for over forty years and has become the largest seller of adult tricycles in the world.  I personally know Jack and Ben, at Sun Bicycle, and there are no harder working guys in the bike business.  Sun Bicycle’s philosophy has always been good quality at a low price and they stand behind the product.

The Sun EZ-Tri Classic SX trike is a nice entry level delta style trike. This trike has some of the same great features as the other Sun recumbents, just at a lower price point. One of the most loved features is the adjustable super soft gel seat and mesh back support.  The seat is wide and just shaped right for your bottom, no matter if you are skinny or much more padding of your own.  The seat back support is contoured for your lower back and can be adjusted for your personal taste with the nylon mesh straps on the back of the seat.

Sun’s seat frame can accommodate two water bottles and is designed to accommodate people up to 300 lbs.  The seat can be easily adjusted by the two quick releases under the seat without using any tools.  The seat angle can be adjusted without any tools as well, using the two spring clips on the seat stays.

Sun was able to keep the cost low by making the frame out of steel, compared to aluminum.  I will have to say that the TIG welding is very precise, performed cleanly and consistently. The Chain Idler is well done and securely welded to the frame to stop the chain from bouncing too much.  The Sun EZ-Tri Classic SX comes with 100 psi, low rolling, resistance Kenda Kwest tires for an incredibly smooth, fast and effortless ride.

Shimano’s 21 speed drive train really gives you enough gears to conquer just about any hill you can find.  Stopping the Sun EZ-Tri Classic trike is performed by a powerful rear-wheel disc brake and a linear-pull front brake which worked flawlessly.  The brake levers come with a parking brake button so you can park on a hill and have no worries about your trike  rolling away.  The handlebars have a comfortable bend and have attachments to carry two water bottles.

Though the Sun EZ-Tri Classic SX is designed with comfort in mind, the trike is perfect for intermediate and casual riders looking for some light touring, commuting or just plain bike path fun.

Pros:

  • A very comfortable seat bottom
  • Easier to get on and off of compared to a tadpole style trike
  • Low price
