Catrike Trail Review

When I first decided to invest in a recumbent trike, I was looking for something that combined comfort, performance, and portability. The Catrike Trail checked all those boxes and more.
The Catrike Trail isn’t just for weekend warriors; it’s designed for daily use as well. Its compact flat twist fold makes it easy to store and transport, while the wide range of accessories—from racks and fenders to lights and mirrors—ensures I’m prepared for any journey. The Catrike Trail has truly enhanced my cycling experience. Its combination of comfort, performance, and customization options make it a standout choice for anyone looking to explore the world on three wheels. Whether I’m embarking on a cross-country tour or enjoying a leisurely ride through the park, this trike has proven to be a reliable and enjoyable companion.
If you’re considering a trike that offers the perfect blend of adventure and comfort, I wholeheartedly recommend giving the Catrike Trail a try. It’s more than just a ride; it’s an invitation to explore the world in a whole new way.
Handling: Whether I’m cruising on paved roads or tackling rugged trails, the Catrike Trail handles it all with ease. The frame is constructed from lightweight 7005 aluminum, and the trike’s geometry ensures excellent stability and maneuverability, even at higher speeds or on uneven terrain. The Avid BB7 disc brakes provide reliable stopping power, and the SRAM GX 10-speed drivetrain offers smooth and precise shifting.
Seat: One of the first things I noticed was the ergonomic mesh seat. It’s incredibly comfortable, offering excellent back support and breathability, making long rides a pleasure. The seat height is just right—high enough to provide a commanding view of the road ahead but low enough to keep the center of gravity stable. Plus, the adjustable recline angle allows me to find the perfect position for both comfort and aerodynamics.
E-Assist Systems: For those longer rides or hilly terrains, the Shimano STEPS E6100 or EP8 electric assist systems provide that extra boost when needed.
Pros:
- Compact folding frame makes it easier to store or fit in a car trunk—great for traveling.
- Tight turning radius and low center of gravity make it stable at speed and agile in tight spots.
Cons:
- The Trail lacks suspension, so you’ll feel more road vibration compared to suspended trikes like the ICE Adventure or Scorpion FS Plus 26. (That said, the seat helps absorb a lot.)
- Better suited for paved roads and light gravel—not rugged terrain.
